Gen Con 2013

Following Gary and Kelly’s example, and because I love talking Gen Con, I thought I’d give everyone a heads-up where you can find me at the convention this week.  My schedule’s pretty light this year, but I will have shiny pretty Mark of the Dragonfly postcards to give out to anyone who wants one, so if you see me strolling the exhibit hall, do come up and say hi.

Other than that, you can find me at the A Night with Dungeons and Dragons Sundering launch party on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Indiana Roof Ballroom.  I’ve heard rumors there will be a murder–and food.  Double win.  I’ll also be at the Candlekeep Presents: The Harpers at Twilight gathering on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.  I think this event ran to almost midnight last year, or whenever they shut down the room.  It’s a whole lot of fun and a great chance to talk Forgotten Realms lore.

I am planning on attending several of the Writer’s Symposium events, because wow, have you seen the lineup of events and authors this year?  Please check it out if you have any interest in writing.  I started attending these seminars early in my writing career, and they were incredibly helpful to me.  Even if you don’t have an interest in writing, there is a full schedule of author readings, which is the perfect thing to do if you need a break from the crowd in the exhibit hall.  Trust me, just go, kick back, and hear some great writers read their work.

Wow, just writing this blog entry made me all excited about the convention.  See you there!

Celebrating more of the good

In my ongoing effort to acknowledge the good that’s happening in my life, this past weekend I celebrated Mother’s Day with my mom, who is recovering well after a bone marrow transplant last month.  Also celebrated husband’s birthday on Saturday with presents and shopping for things for our new house.  Oh, I didn’t mention I was moving?  I am, because apparently I needed another challenge in my life–more likely I’m just insane.  😉

I’m also on pins and needles waiting to hear more about the secret projects Kelly and Gary are working on.  Celebrating friends’ writing accomplishments is an awesome thing, and it energizes me in my own writing.

As if that weren’t enough good stuff, I also celebrated my graduation from the U of I Springfield’s online English program, so now I have a degree to go with my publishing credits, which, as my brother-in-law likes to joke, is doing it all backwards, but whatever works, heh.

But the thing that has me the most tickled right at this particular moment?  Pierre van Rooden is doing a Countdown to Gen Con on Facebook, making up a fun collectible game card for each day from now until the convention to spotlight games, events, participants, etc.  And he made a card for me.

You know what that means, right?

Yep, even if I get squashed by a meteor tomorrow, I will depart the earth knowing that I was on a trading card.  I have a casting cost and everything.

Doesn’t get much better than that.

Gen Con 2012

Yep, one of my favorite times of the year is right around the corner.  Gen Con 2012 is going on August 16-19th in Indianapolis, IN.  It’s the event where gamers like me and thousands of our closest friends get together and take over a city for a weekend of all-night games, exhibit hall shopping sprees, tournaments, seminars, parties, cosplaying, and many many other fun things.

My schedule for the convention (subject to change) will be:

Thursday

7:00 – 8:00 p.m.   The Future of Dungeons and Dragons  – I’ve heard through the grapevine that there will be information here of particular interest to Realms fans, so I have to check it out.

8:00 – 10:00 p.m.  Candlekeep Presents: 25 Years of the Forgotten Realms  – Might be a bit late to this one because of the above, but I’ve heard that the room will be available after the event ends, so I’ll probably stick around as late as folks want to be there.  Stop by and chat about all things Realms-related.

Saturday

2:30 – 3:30 p.m.    Signing at the Foreshadows Booth #1749 – Music, art and writing come together in a dark science fiction/cyberpunk anthology!  Come see what all the excitement is about.

5:00 – 6:00 p.m.    Reading: Kelly Swails and Brad Beaulieu
– Strictly a spectator here, but I’ve got it on good authority that this Kelly Swails person does a helluva good reading.  You should really check it out and bring friends.  🙂

Sunday

12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Signing at the Foreshadows Booth #1749 – If you’re just rolling out of bed around noon the last day of the convention (like me), visit me at the Foreshadows booth for a chat and a convention recap.

I’ll be doing a few other things here and there at the convention but mostly just hanging out with friends.  My partners in crime on this blog are going to be there, and people I generally only get to see once a year, plus, the brother, the brother-in-law, and the Todd are coming over for all or part of the weekend, so needless to say, I am very excited to see everyone from near and far.  Game on!
