I’m snowed in today, and not just by the huge drifts blocking my driveway. I’m told that going outside in the cold for any length of time will result in random appendages falling off, and we don’t want that. Okay, I might be exaggerating a bit, but I’m not taking any chances, so I’m inside hammering out a short story and working on some accounting work that I brought home from the office.
I always say I like the balance between the straightforward math in the accounting and the creative exercise I get from the short story. It helps me focus better, and I seem to have less of a chance of getting stuck on a project when I know I can switch from one to the other. Still, I’ve lost track of the number of funny looks and chuckles I get when I tell people I’m a writer and that my day job is in accounting. Their response is always something along the lines of, “I didn’t know that was even possible.” Well, here I am, living proof. 🙂
So, when you get your taxes done next month, remember that your accountant might have a secret identity as a fantasy writer.
